The highly anticipated comic, DEADPOOL/BATMAN #1, is set to hit shelves on September 17, and excitement is building among fans of both characters. Written by Zeb Wells, known for his remarkable tenure on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (2022), Wells shared insights about the collaboration, noting that after completing 60 issues, he initially sought a break. However, Marvel had other plans for him. "Marvel told me I could either take a break or write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation," he recounted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. This enticing offer quickly changed his mind, and he dives into the chaos of Gotham City alongside the Merc with a Mouth.
Wells elaborated on the dynamic between the two characters, saying, "In Batman, we've found someone who has even less time for Deadpool's antics than Wolverine. But with a city-wide threat looming due to the Joker, it makes for an intriguing and hilarious mix of characters—especially if Deadpool gets his way, which could lead to some literal bedfellows." This unique blend of humor and heroics promises to be a highlight as readers witness Deadpool's mischief in the dark, gritty landscapes of Gotham.
Adding to the enthusiasm, acclaimed artist Greg Capullo expressed his excitement about the project, calling it a potential pinnacle in his career. Capullo, who has a storied history with both characters, noted, "Am I dreaming? This crossover is likely to be the high point of my career...and, I’ve had a great career." Reflecting on his extensive experience, he recalled, "Some of my earliest work was on X-FORCE back in 1991, so Deadpool and I go way back. More recently, I spent over a decade drawing Batman at DC. The idea that I get to do a crossover event with both Deadpool and Batman is just surreal. If I am dreaming, please don’t wake me!" His illustrations are anticipated to bring a distinctive flair to the comic, ensuring that fans are in for a visual treat.
As the launch date approaches, readers are encouraged to check out Capullo’s main cover art, which showcases his signature style. Fans should stay tuned for additional news and updates regarding DEADPOOL/BATMAN #1, as more details will be revealed in the coming weeks.
