The Sky Blues then flew out of the blocks at the start of the second half when Matt Grimes stole in on half-time sub John Swift to nick the ball and place past the goalkeeper with a precise finish to double the lead with 48 minutes on the clock. And things went from bad to worse for Tony Mowbray’s men three minutes later when full-back Callum Styles was shown a second yellow card and sent off for a foul on Tatsuhiro Sakamoto as the Japanese winger span past him. The home side continued to dominate until the last ten minutes when the Baggies finally started to have a go, but City kept things tight and saw out their magnificent victory. STARTING FORMATION: 4-2-3-1 (Image: PA) BRAD COLLINS: 7 Came out of his area and cleared nice and positively to tidy up a threatening situation but relatively untroubled in a Coventry dominant first half. Kicked well, finding his men. Came out to claim a big catch as Albion put in a high ball amid late pressure. MILAN VAN EWIJK: 7 Continued in good form, getting forward in the attack and tracking back to defend when required. A good outlet down the right and showed quick thinking and pace throughout. JOEL LATIBEAUDIERE: 7 Once again deployed at right centre-back in place of the injured Bobby Thomas and put in an assured display in a Coventry dominant first 45. Continued to be calm and organised at the back where he and Kitching played a brilliant off-side trap that caught Albion out several times in the second half. LIAM KITCHING: 7.5 Calm in possession and good distribution out from the back from the centre-back who defended his box really well, heading clear with first contact from two corners in the first half. Denied by a really good save at the near post from the keeper as he threatened to score from a free-kick delivery from Sheaf. JAY DASILVA: 8 Got forward to good effect and was involved in the build-up to the early goal when he fed Wright. The two enjoyed a good understanding with some nice link-up play resulting in Haji testing the keeper with an angled shot. Terrific display from the full-back who is in the form of his City career. Eventually made way for Bidwell, presumably to save his legs for Monday. (Image: PA) BEN SHEAF: 8 Helped link the play from back to front as he continues to get back to his best form and make excellent use of the ball time and time again as City set up camp in Albion’s final third looking for a third goal. MATT GRIMES: 8.5 Took an early yellow for the team when he stopped Mikey Johnston in his tracks on a day when he was excellent throughout, getting a foot in and doing the dirty work. Pressed high and got his rewards at the start of the second half when he stole possession off Swift and slotted past the keeper to make it 2-0. JACK RUDONI: 8.5/9 Hit a lovely first time shot from Haji’s pull-back to give City the early lead. The attacking midfielder put on an awesome display of dribbling and close control with the ball sticking to his boots like Velcro in tight situations to get the fans singing his name. (Image: PA) TATSUHIRO SAKAMOTO: 7.5 Took an early hit when taken out by an Albion player but did his fair share of tracking back to help defend and get tackles in. A real thorn in Albion’s side and, in particular for Callum Styles who was sent off when the Japanese winger span past him and the defender brought him to the ground. ELLIS SIMMS: 6.5/7 Led the line well, holding the ball up and stretching Albion’s back line with some quick and powerful runs. Unlucky to not get a penalty when he contested a header in the box and was dragged down. A big and physical presence who worked hard all game. HAJI WRIGHT: 7.5 Took on his marker in the box to pull the ball back for Rudoni to score in the 6th minute. Tracked back to help support Dasilva to show the other side to his game while causing all manner of problems as Albion doubled up on him as he dribbled into the box from the left. A real threat throughout. SUBSTITUTES: JAKE BIDWELL (66 mins, for Dasilva): 6 Solid and dependable and picked up where Dasilva left off. (Image: PA) JAMIE ALLEN (77 mins, for Grimes): 5.5 Worked hard and helped see out the game. NORMAN BASSETTE (77 mins, for Simms): 5.5 Added an extra threat with his blistering pace as City looked to add another goal and see out the game by continuing to stretch the Baggies. A bit erratic at times. JAMIE PATERSON (90 mins, for Wright): LUIS BINKS (90 mins, for Kitching): Subs (not used): Ben Wilson (GK), Luis Binks, Jamie Paterson, Jamie Allen, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Norman Bassette, Raphael Borges Rodrigues, Isaac Moore.
