In an exciting turn of events for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Spider-Man is poised to start anew in the upcoming fourth installment of the franchise, aptly titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This revelation marks a significant shift in both the narrative direction of Peter Parker's story and the filmmaking approach of the MCU itself.

Tom Holland, who reprises his beloved role as the web-slinging hero, recently teased this much-anticipated project during an episode of the YouTube series Flip Your Wig. He described the upcoming film as a chance for viewers to experience a “breath of fresh air,” implying a return to the roots of what made Spider-Man a beloved character.

“I’m obviously over the moon and so excited,” Holland expressed, highlighting his enthusiasm for returning to the role. The film’s plot picks up after the dramatic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which left Peter Parker in a precarious situation where his identity remains unknown to his friends and loved ones. “Playing Spider-Man is like hanging out with an old pal,” he adds, recalling the fondness he has for his character.

In his comments, Holland further elaborated on the production process, reflecting on the limitations faced during the filming of No Way Home, which was largely constrained to studio sets due to COVID-19 regulations. “We shot the entire film on stages,” he noted, emphasizing the challenges that limited creative freedom. Now, with the new film, he revealed a return to traditional filmmaking techniques, stating, “Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations.” The first filming location will be the vibrant city of Glasgow, where the team plans to construct a massive set-piece that promises to evoke the essence of their earlier works.

This nostalgic approach is reminiscent of Holland's first appearance as Spider-Man in 2017, and he expressed excitement about revisiting that style. “It’s gonna feel like making Spider-Man 1 again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together,” he shared enthusiastically.

No Way Home, which premiered in December 2021, is a direct sequel to 2019's Spider-Man: Far From Home. The latter film ended with a shocking revelation where Peter Parker's secret identity was unveiled to the world. No Way Home showcased a whirlwind of multiverse chaos, featuring appearances from iconic characters like Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, and former Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, delighting fans with nostalgia. The plot thickened as Doctor Strange attempted to erase the public’s memory of Spider-Man’s true identity through a spell, which goes awry, introducing various villains from different universes.

Scheduled for theatrical release on July 31, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Producers include returning figures Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. Alongside Holland, Zendaya will reprise her role, and production is set to start following the completion of filming for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, The Odyssey. Additionally, new cast members include Sadie Sink from Stranger Things and Liza Colón-Zayas from The Bear, though their roles remain undisclosed.

The previous film, No Way Home, achieved monumental success, becoming the seventh highest-grossing movie of all time with a staggering global box office total of $1.95 billion, a testament to the enduring popularity of the Spider-Man franchise.
