ITV This Morning pays tribute to Coronation Street legend after tragic death This Morning paid tribute to a Coronation Street icon after his tragic death was announced over the weekend. This Morning paid tribute to Coronation Street legend Philip Lowrie on Wednesday’s programme, following his sad death. During a segment where presenters Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were catching up on all things soaps with Sharon Marshall, they began with a commemorative note. Sharon opened the discussion by expressing: "I wanted to start with a little tribute, if I may, to Phillip Lowrie. I was so privileged to meet and interview him a couple of times over the years. "He played Dennis Tanner, of course; he passed away last week aged 88. This is pure Coronation Street history, he's in the very first episode." Philip was known for bringing to life the original bad boy of the soap world, playing a pivotal role from 1960 until 1968. The sad news was confirmed by Phillip’s publicist, Mario Renzullo, who announced that the esteemed actor had died on Friday. In a heartfelt statement, Mr Renzullo said: "My client and very dear friend, Philip Lowrie, the beloved actor renowned for his role as Dennis Tanner on Coronation Street, passed away yesterday at 88. The actor was one of the first cast members in 1960 "His death marks the end of an era for the world's longest-running soap, where he became a cornerstone of its storytelling." Reflecting on his impact, Sharon mentioned on This Morning that the star’s legacy will forever be imprinted on the set. She elaborated: "I know he was really pleased about this, his name is forever in that set. Etched outside her (Elsie Tanner) window, you can see this if you go on the Coronation Street tour, etched outside her house, which I think Eileen lives there now, it still says Dennis Tanner. Where he's supposed to have etched into it as a kid." Sharon paid tribute to Phillip on Wednesday's episode of This Morning The This Morning presenters were visibly impressed upon seeing an image of the etching on-screen, describing the tribute to his character as extremely special. Sharon continued: "That actually pre-dated the programme even setting up! It was said he was supposed to have done it as a little boy. "What I love is Pat Pheonix, her very last scene; you can see it when she goes; the last thing she does is look at that graffiti on the set. "It's always there.
