The brief but mighty storm wreaked havoc throughout Guelph Tuesday, leaving a mess and thousands without power City crews are still working on cleaning up after yesterday’s storm, which knocked trees and powerlines down, collapsed a building and tore off a roof. Alectra spokesperson Ashley Trgachef said 7,264 were without power Tuesday evening and that all power had been restored by Wednesday morning. Public Works manager Terry Dooling said their team received and responded to more than 50 calls related to storm damages, including damaged trees and large limbs blocking roads and sidewalks, fallen or damaged traffic signs, minor flooding, damage to traffic signals, and multiple lane closures and temporary road closures due to debris and low hanging wires causing safety concerns. The city’s parks department received around 200 emails and calls Tuesday evening and another 50 Wednesday morning about tree-related issues after the storm. “We're cleaning up fallen trees and branches on public property by responding to immediate hazards and prioritizing service calls based on the potential risk to people or property,” parks general manager Mallory Lemon said in an email. Police also reported receiving dozens of calls for downed trees and hydro lines. No injuries were reported as a result of the storm.
