Co-op issue statement as police search for man 'making threats with a knife' It was reported that the man had a knife in a Merseyside shop The Co-op have issued a statement on the incident to the ECHO (Image: Keith Mayhew/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images ) The Co-op has issued an update after a man was seen ‘with a knife’ in one of its Merseyside shops. Yesterday morning at around 8.40am, it was reported that a man was trying to steal from parked vehicles on Langdale Road in Bebington , Wirral. The suspect then left the area on foot and it was further reported that he was in possession of a knife at a nearby Co-op store, on Cross Lane, and was making threats. He then left the area towards Mayer Avenue. There have been no reported injuries. A statement by the Co-op said members of staff were being supported following the incident. A Co-op spokesperson told the ECHO: “We can confirm an incident occurred at our Cross Lane store in Bebington. “Fortunately, no one was hurt and colleagues are being fully supported. We appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward to police, who are investigating.” A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed yesterday that the force are on the hunt for the man. The man is described as a white male, around 6ft tall, has a slim build and he was wearing a green jacket, blue tracksuit trousers and a black cap. In an email seen by the ECHO this morning, the boys school alerted parents about the incident. The email said: “Dear parents/carers, we have been made aware of an incident that took place outside the Co-op store, Cross Lane earlier this morning (before school). “A young man escorted from the store for disorderly conduct was reported to be in possession of a bladed implement; he then departed the scene. The police have been informed and are looking for the individual concerned and have been doing patrols in the local area. “We would like to reassure parents/carers that the school is taking proportionate measures, and we are advising our community to remain extra vigilant.
