Weekes races to front as speedsters light up Magic Round

Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes has emerged as the fastest man in the NRL this year as the sport's speedsters prepare to put on a show throughout Magic Round. According to Telstra Tracker data, the fullback has recorded a top speed of 36km/h, just eclipsing Dolphins star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow. Weekes is the only player to crack the 10 metres per second barrier during a match this season, reaching 10.01 m/s. A former sprinting sensation while at high school, Weekes ran a 10.98s 100m sprint as a 17-year-old. His speed on the football field this year suggests he has become even quicker since joining the Raiders. Penrith's Casey McLean is the fastest winger at 9.97m/s or 35.89km/h, edging Cronulla's Ronaldo Mulitalo at 35.82km/h. "A couple of weeks ago when they won on the bell [against the Sharks], it was his effort from the other side of the field to come across and score the try. I'm expecting him to not give up on any plays and I'll try counter that by turning up on every play. "I'm getting used to the personal one-on-one contests. It's a good battle within the battle to go out and compete against the guy opposite me, get over the top of him." Warriors playmaker Luke Metcalf has reached the fastest top speed among halfbacks this year, with Newcastle's Fletcher Sharpe topping the five-eighth rankings. Up front, Knights hooker Phoenix Crossland is the fastest forward in the game reaching a top speed of 32.9km/h this year, just pipping Roosters dummy half Connor Watson. Warriors young gun Leka Halasima tops the second-row standings, with Manly's Haumole Olakau'atu close behind. Toby Couchman reached a top speed of 32.58km/h to be the fastest prop, ahead of Wests Tigers forward Fonua Pole at 32.292.
