Here's a taste of the restaurants Omaha has to offer Berkshire Hathaway shareholders

You’re in town for Berkshire Hathaway weekend to hear Warren Buffett speak, schmooze with old friends and perhaps take in some sights. But where to go after sampling Buffett’s favorite eateries (Gorat’s and Dairy Queen)? Here are 10 suggestions from World-Herald food writer Betsie Freeman: Dolomiti Pizzeria and Enoteca Address: 1105 N. 13th St. Website: pizzadolomiti.com Tucked into an old brick building in trendy Millwork Commons, this innovative restaurant serves sourdough-crust pizza with flair. The formaggi — with fontina, burrata, pecorino, grana padano and whole milk cheeses plus roasted garlic — is my favorite. It’s simply made with complex flavor. Side dishes and appetizers also shine. Try the marinated olives and beautiful — and delicious – Caesar salad. Crumbled croutons are the difference between meh and marvelous. Sips on 10th Address: 1022 S. 10th St. Website: sipson10th.com If you’re into happy hour, this is your new home. It has two — the classic from 4 to 6 p.m. and the reverse 9 to 11 p.m. It has a cozy, friendly and dimly lit atmosphere with a bar on one level that looks down on tables below. We love enjoying snacks and cocktails — and champagne — here before attending plays at the Bluebarn Theatre across the street. Our favorites include the baked peach gorgonzola dip, butternut squash ravioli and the smoked gouda mac. It also has brunch. Table Grace Cafe Address: 1611½ Farnam St. Website: tablegracecafe.com When you eat here, you help someone less fortunate. It offers unhoused or struggling people pay-as-you-can meals, and allows other customers to donate toward their food. It also has a two-week job assistance program. And chef Matt Weber is fantastic. He operates the cafe with wife Simone, who wrote a musical about the restaurant that was on Omaha-area stages last year. He served a preshow meal that was innovative and amazing. Try the homemade cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches or sweet potato bisque. And make new friends. Address: 930 Harney St. Website: ourmemoir.com The Berkshire crowd will appreciate the short walk from CHI Health Center to the stylish new restaurant near the Old Market. You’ll marvel at the decor, the food and the service. The space is lush with plants, soft lighting, dark rich colors. The wait staff is accommodating but not fussy. I’ve only been here once, but my meal was memorable. Try the Memoir frites with parmesan, herbs and lemon mayo, the Caesar salad with chipped potatoes and the bolognese. Address: 1205 Howard St. Website: plankprovisions.com You can't go wrong at one of our reliable standbys — we’ve celebrated graduations, birthdays and anniversaries at this modern seafood restaurant. It has decor that — you guessed it — is reminiscent of a seaside eatery, highlighted by a lively oyster and drinks bar. And the menu has something for everyone. We love the beignet style hushpuppies, lobster bisque, blackened Mississippi catfish, shrimp brochette and crispy walleye puttanesca. Nosh Restaurant and Wine Bar Address: 1006 Dodge St. Website: noshwine.com You can construct a feast in small bites in the heart of downtown. It also is a short walk from the arena, tucked away in a vintage building, it's easy to miss. You might want to ask Siri for directions. It’s dark yet inviting, with strategically placed tables and TVs for sports lovers. The wine selection is excellent and there’s lots to choose from foodwise, mostly small plates. Try the margherita flatbread (I am addicted to the balsamic reduction on that dish), French onion soup garnished with bacon, spinach dip and crab cake. And a bottle or two of your favorite vino. Then wait awhile before you walk back to CHI or your hotel. Elie’s Chinchorro Address: 906 N. 16th St. Website: elieschinchorro.com The flavors of Puerto Rico are found in north downtown at this locally owned restaurant. Using family recipes — even for some cocktails — chef Elie Berchal created a unique dining experience for Omaha and its visitors. It starts with the atmosphere: The relatively small space is awash with a rainbow of bright Caribbean colors and art that reflects her heritage. And the menu is a delightful adventure. I recommend the chicken or beef turnovers with guava and cheese, the Cuban sandwich and mofongo, which are fried plantains stuffed with your choice of protein, including shrimp, steak, lobster and even octopus. Don’t leave without enjoying at least one pina colada. Nicola’s Italian Wine and Fare Address: 521 S. 13th St. Website: nicolasomaha.com When I want a meal I know I will relish, I go here — and I'm never disappointed. It’s in a small building on a busy downtown street, but it oozes old-world charm reminiscent of what I imagine a restaurant in Italy to be. Tables are packed into a small space but it’s cozy, not claustrophobic. Dim lighting and stucco walls add to the ambience. The menu is extensive and amazing, there are no bad choices. My favorites are the bruschetta made with homemade bread and Buffalo mozzarella; ravioli with meat or cheese; tortellini with cheese and prosciutto; and the creamy chicken marsala. Hopefully, it will be perfect spring weather over Berkshire weekend to sit on the delightful patio. Address: 1108 Howard St. Website: gather-omaha.com The first thing to know is this restaurant grows its own produce in a basement hydroponic garden, and guests are invited to check it out. It’s safe to say you'll never have a fresher restaurant salad unless you encounter a similar setup. And that’s not all it has going for it. The rest of the food is great, too, and quite innovative. I was skeptical about the bone marrow fried rice — because bone marrow sounded weird until I googled it — but now I would order three of the side servings and make a meal of only that. It’s one of the best rice dishes I’ve ever had. I also recommend the crispy brussels, porcini dusted cobia and Jackson Donut Holes with dipping sauces. Add in the roofed patio in the back and the large, vibrant dining room, and you’ll be hooked. Good Lookin’ Address: 4919 Underwood Ave. and 16920 Wright Plaza #118 Website: reallygoodlookin.com Offering a fresh take on breakfast and brunch, this is one of my favorites. I had time to kill near the Underwood location on a recent Saturday, and I indulged in one of its huge and tasty breakfast burritos packed with scrambled egg, sharp white cheddar, cojita, chorizo, house aioli and tater tots. I had a whole half leftover for breakfast the next day. The burrito, by the way, was a contender in The World-Herald's best of the city taste test. Other suggestions include the churro French toast with caramel whip and hazelnut spread; vegan hash with chickpeas, sweet potatoes, avocados and other healthy things; and ricotta pancakes with fruit and cinnamon spread.
