The FA's decision follows April's Supreme Court ruling that a woman is defined by biological sex The FA has said transgender women can no longer play in English women's football from June 1 The FA has confirmed that transgender women can no longer play in English women's football from June 1. The FA said it had updated its policy in light of last month’s UK Supreme Court ruling regarding the Equality Act, clarifying that a woman is defined by biological sex. ‌ The FA's inclusion policy had been updated just prior to that ruling, and continued to allow transgender women to play in women’s football provided they reduced testosterone levels. ‌ Those rule changes gave the FA ultimate discretion on permitting a transgender woman to play, with consideration given to safety and fairness issues. And on Friday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) followed suit, saying transgender women will no longer be able to play in competitive women’s and girl’s cricket. Trans women have been banned from the top two tiers of elite women’s cricket since the start of this year, but had been permitted to compete in the women’s game up to and including tier three of the domestic game and throughout recreational cricket.
