McDonald's is set to introduce a first for the UK on its menu, available to order in just a few days. But I had an exclusive early taste. The fast-food titan is looking to "shake up mornings" with the introduction of its new breakfast saver menu. Yet, after sampling the offerings at the recently refurbished Lord Street outlet, I'm inclined to say it won't be jolting anyone's morning routine. I doubt they would even give most of us a slight nudge. On offer are a sausage sandwich and a bacon roll, coming in at prices of £1.99 and £2.19. They're joining a line-up that includes a cheesy bacon flatbread, porridge, apple slices, crispy hash browns, and Tropicana orange and apple juice. The trial run kicks off in 332 eateries from Wednesday, May 7, testing waters briefly before a wider roll-out expected later this year. Scousers get a piece of the pie, with Liverpool locations featuring in the test phase. People living down south aren't missing out on much - that's my two cents. What you've got here is pretty straightforward: a slice of bacon or sausage nestled between buns that sadly don't rise to the occasion. (Image: Jeff Gilbert) They might lend themselves to a lighter morning munch, but they wouldn't have me straying from my go-to breakfast - unless the end of the month is looming and I need to save a few extra pounds. The meat sandwiches are served with a touch of either ketchup or brown sauce and can be purchased as part of a coffee bundle deal. However, what's a bundle deal without the added delight of a scrumptious hash brown? It seems like McDonald's has missed a trick here, with the hash browns coming at an additional cost. If they really want to satisfy us early birds, they should bring back the tasty bagel. McDonald's enthusiasts, myself included, should however prepare for a mix of emotions as the items are being launched in line with a menu overhaul. While exciting new breakfast items are being introduced, fans will soon have to bid farewell to a beloved classic. (Image: Jeff Gilbert) Known for its regularly refreshed menu, McDonald's keeps diners on their toes with seasonal delights. Sometimes, this means parting ways with well-loved offerings—a situation set to unfold come Tuesday, May 6. The Philly Cheese Stack found its way back to the menus of McDonald's across the country as part of the Valentine's Day specials, remaining a tantalising option ever since. However, its tenure is ending. Savoured for its two juicy beef patties doused in rich cheese sauce, topped with both grilled and crispy onions, cheese slices, pickles, all nestled within a warmly toasted bun, it had enjoyed a comeback alongside temptations such as the raspberry and white chocolate pie and the Mars McFlurry—both of which have already departed from the menu. Fast forward to Wednesday, May 7, and McDonald's outlets nationwide will roll out the Summer menu. It is reportedly packed full with scrumptious alternatives for food lovers, ranging from hearty burgers to delectable desserts, including the introduction of a new beverage. As a McDonald's spokesperson put it: "There's something for everyone at McDonald's in May." Further details on the fresh menu and pricing can be found here.
