Can you imagine the vibrant world of the Na’vi from Avatar leaping off the big screen and into your living room? Director James Cameron just dropped a bombshell that might change the way we view Pandora forever!

In an exclusive interview with Empire ahead of the highly anticipated release of Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, Cameron revealed his ambitious plans to dive into the world of animation. This isn’t just any ordinary expansion; it’s an animated anthology series that promises to unveil stories from Pandora that fans have never even dreamed of. With the franchise already having its roots deep in video games and even a theme park at Walt Disney World, it seems Cameron is ready to push the boundaries even further.

“I said, ‘Look, I want to do an animated anthology series that’s essentially in the world, but stories that you wouldn’t have expected from that world,'” Cameron explained. His vision is not just a superficial spin-off; he’s aiming to explore the deeper lore, the very essence of Pandora, and the adventures of its inhabitants. “There might even be an animated feature in there — it might be a feature for streaming, or a theatrical feature,” he added.

But what about the stories? Cameron cited successful animated adaptations, pointing to The Animatrix, which expanded the Matrix universe in exciting ways. “These are all great examples for how we can add texture and baroque detail to the world of Avatar,” he said. Just think: backstories, hidden tales, and perhaps the first expedition to Pandora could all be on the horizon!

However, before fans get too excited, Cameron also highlighted that these animated entries are still in the early stages of development. “We haven’t done much with that yet,” he admitted. “We’re still gathering our stories and that sort of thing, and I’ve got to find the boutique filmmakers, the animators, that want to do it.”

The first trailer for Fire and Ash just released last week, generating buzz ahead of its debut on the big screen. And let’s not forget, the Avatar franchise has raked in an astonishing $5.24 billion globally, with the very first movie holding the record for the highest-grossing film of all time at $2.92 billion. With numbers like these, it’s clear that Cameron’s world is just getting started!
