NBA Star Malik Beasley Faces Eviction Amid Gambling Investigation! What’s Going on?

What happens when an NBA star's life spirals out of control? In a shocking turn of events, Malik Beasley, a prominent figure in the world of basketball, has found himself at the center of a federal gambling probe while being evicted from his Detroit high-rise apartment.
On Wednesday, court records revealed that the 28-year-old player, who once shone on the courts, was sued by his landlord for a staggering $21,505 in unpaid rent. This legal battle unfolded in Michigan's 36th District Court, where Beasley faced two lawsuits this year alone. While the first case, filed in March, was dismissed, the second lawsuit resulted in an eviction order for an outstanding amount of $7,355 after Beasley failed to respond.
His attorney, Steve Haney, has been somewhat silent on the matter, not responding to ESPN's request for comments. Despite the chaos back home, Beasley's social media suggests he has been enjoying life abroad, traveling around Europe.
Beasley's troubles don’t just stop at unpaid rent. He is under investigation by the Eastern District of New York concerning gambling allegations tied to his time with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023-24 season. However, it's crucial to note that as of now, he has not faced any criminal charges. Haney defended Beasley’s standing in the eyes of the law, stressing, “An investigation is not a charge.” He also emphasized Beasley’s right to the presumption of innocence under the U.S. Constitution.
It’s ironic that just as Beasley was reviving his career, having had a solid season with the Detroit Pistons, discussions regarding a lucrative three-year, $42 million contract were abruptly halted. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the future is now uncertain for the player who has amassed nearly $60 million over his nine-year career.
As if things couldn’t get any worse, Beasley is also facing a lawsuit from his former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management, claiming he owes $650,000 in advances. Reports from July revealed that he has accumulated debts, not just to his agency, but also to a celebrity barber, a dentist, and a bridge loan company catering to professional athletes.
