AirAsia's Shocking Flight Detour: Passengers Land in the Wrong Airport!
Did You Hear About AirAsia's Latest Mishap?
Picture this: You're sitting on a plane, ready to land at your destination, only to find out you've touched down at a completely different airport! That's exactly what happened with AirAsia, the popular budget airline, on August 13.
The flight, which left from Kuala Lumpur International Airport, was expected to arrive at Incheon Airport in South Korea at 7:50 PM. But as fate would have it, passengers found themselves landing at Gimpo International Airport instead, a whopping 35 kilometers away from where they intended to be. The plane finally touched down at 8:08 PM after a prolonged period of circling the skies.
According to distraught passengers, the captain announced their arrival at Incheon, causing many to stand up and retrieve their bags. However, the moment they looked out of the window or checked their phones, panic set in as they realized they were far from where they were supposed to be. Ms. Lee Mi-hyun, a passenger traveling with her husband and young daughter, recounted the chaotic scene, saying, “Everyone panicked. It seemed the cabin crew didn’t know we had landed at Gimpo until passengers told them.”
To make matters worse, one crew member reportedly needed to call her parents who were waiting at Incheon, adding to the confusion. What caused this unfortunate detour? It was reportedly due to ‘turbulence’ over Incheon Airport, which necessitated an emergency landing at Gimpo for refueling. After a tense two-hour wait, the flight finally took off for Incheon, departing at 10:17 PM.
During this prolonged delay, many passengers expressed dissatisfaction with the crew's handling of the situation. “They appeared just as confused as the passengers. No water was offered, and there was almost no food left on board, leaving passengers with children upset,” Lee remarked. Some even suggested they would prefer to disembark at Gimpo rather than wait for the next leg of their journey.
As the flight continued to Incheon, the captain and crew did issue an apology over the announcement system, though many felt it was too little, too late. Another passenger, identified as Ryu, voiced similar concerns, stating, “During the two hours before we departed for Incheon again, there was no clear explanation of what caused the landing error.”
So far, AirAsia has not publicly addressed the incident, leaving many to wonder how such a significant mishap could occur and what steps will be taken to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
