Mexican pop star Christian Chavez, best known as a member of the iconic group RBD, is ready to unveil a new chapter in his career. On Thursday, he announced the release of his highly anticipated solo EP, titled S, set to drop on May 6. This project holds immense significance for Chavez, as he describes it in a heartfelt handwritten note as a manifesto that reflects his journey of self-discovery and healing, particularly in the wake of being outed publicly during his time with RBD.

Chavez candidly expressed the challenges he faced, revealing, I covered my pain with laughter, living behind a mask. The race to chase the fortune of my dreams coming true pushed me to forget my essence. He further elaborated on his tumultuous experiences, stating, Romantic love only brought more destruction. I gave my power to someone else, and then they took away my voice by exposing my sexual preference, forcing me to carry it like a scarlet letter in front of the whole world. This poignant declaration underscores the emotional weight he has carried throughout his career.

In a recent release, Maana Me Voy, which came out just last week, Chavez opened up about the feelings of being different since childhood. He recounted how, in his pursuit of success as a telenovela actor and musician, he often felt compelled to suppress his true self to meet others' expectations. I got caught in self-destruction. I went from one relapse to another. My soul needed a painful revolution to heal, he confessed. With this upcoming EP, he emphasizes that it is more than songs and images its a manifesto about me and my new life. I became my own fucking hero.

Support from fellow RBD members has been overwhelming. Maite Perroni, one of his closest bandmates, publicly expressed her admiration in the comments section of his announcement. I love you with all my heart, and I admire you more than words can express, she wrote. You are my teacher and I honor and applaud every inch of you, of your existence, of your authenticity and ability to rebuild with self-love. Forever and always with you, beautiful soul! This show of solidarity highlights the strong bonds that remain within the group, even as they pursue individual paths.

Chavez's solo project comes after RBD's successful reunion tour, the Soy Rebelde stadium tour, which sold out venues across the United States and Latin America. During this tour, Chavez reflected on the importance of embracing his identity publicly. Im not going to stay quiet. Im not going to change who I am, he told Rolling Stone, declaring that the old version of himself was gone for good.

In a related development, last October, the band settled a lawsuit with their former manager, who was accused of financial mismanagement, including $1 million that went unaccounted for. Despite the controversy, Chavez and his bandmates continue to forge ahead with their careers. Additionally, fellow RBD member Dulce Mara reignited her solo career last November with a collaboration titled Ojal. In her own reflections on music, she shared with Rolling Stone, I want people to feel, connect with, and dance to these songs. This has been such a therapy and catharsis for me.
