'Our party is being destroyed': Labour MP warns By Faye Brown, political reporter Labour MPs are still reeling from a difficult set of local elections in which they lost a safe seat in Runcorn and Helsby to Reform UK. Many want Sir Keir Starmer to change course to prevent Nigel Farage's party winning the general election, with the likes of Liverpool MP Ian Byrne telling Sky News the PM is becoming more unpopular than Margaret Thatcher in the Labour-voting city. (See post14.03) Another MP in a traditionally Labour area has told Sky News that the party is being "destroyed" by policies that weren't in the manifesto. They said: "Reform are undoubtedly a threat to Labour in traditional Labour heartlands. "We have lost trust and I understand why. Keir & the treasury need to start listening." They added: "It's all well and good saying we have reduced waiting lists and introduced the employment rights bill & other positive things but what people are interested in is, the things we're delivering that were not in our manifesto such as winter fuel & welfare." They said it is "time to ditch the welfare plans" adding: "Our party is being destroyed." The comments chime with some polling from More In Common, which found that while Labour has some popular policies they are being "drowned out" by negative ones., such as the cut to winter fuel payments...
