As summer celebrations filled the air with barbecues, swimming pools, and fireworks, moviegoers flocked to theaters to catch the latest installment in the beloved franchise, Universal and Amblin's Jurassic World Rebirth. The film stomped its way to an impressive $26.3 million on Friday, July 4th, marking a notable 4% increase over the previous day. This made it the movie's second-highest grossing day, trailing only behind its spectacular $30.5 million opening day, which notably began with showtimes starting at 12:01 AM.

In total, the five-day weekend gross for Jurassic World Rebirth has reached $141.2 million, with the Friday to Sunday take accounting for $85.4 million. On a global scale, the film has opened strongly with a remarkable $312.5 million from 82 international markets. This figure surpasses the global opening of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which debuted at $298.9 million, even when unadjusted for currency fluctuations and inflation. The original Jurassic World holds the record for the franchise's highest global debut at $525.5 million, placing it as the sixth highest worldwide opening in cinematic history.

While the July 4th festivities posed a potential challenge for the film's box office longevity, Jurassic World Rebirth proved resilient. Interestingly, having the holiday on a Friday may have served the film well. In fact, it achieved the best July 4th performance for a number one movie in the post-COVID era, surpassing the previous year’s Despicable Me 4, which earned $20.3 million on a Thursday, and the 2022 release of Rise of Gru, which took in $16 million on a Monday holiday.

Analyzing the audience demographics reveals an interesting trend: the viewers of Jurassic World Rebirth are reportedly older than those of its predecessors, with only 36% of the audience under the age of 25, compared to 56% for Fallen Kingdom and 41% for Dominion. The age group of 18-34 also showed a slight increase, representing 51% of the audience compared to 46% for Dominion. Additionally, the film has garnered a higher definite recommendation score on PostTrak, with 60% of viewers likely to recommend it, compared to 57% for Dominion.

The diversity of the audience remained quite similar to previous entries in the franchise, with Caucasians making up 45% of the viewers, Latinos and Hispanics at 26%, Black viewers at 13%, and Asian Americans at 9%. The gender breakdown tilted significantly, with 61% of ticket buyers being male, and the largest demographic being those aged 25-34, accounting for 29% of the audience.

Family-oriented films like the Jurassic series draw a wide range of viewers, and this latest installment is no exception, with 41% of attendees coming with children according to PostTrak. Groups of friends, ranging from one to five people, made up 32% of the audience. Interestingly, the film isn't perceived as a date-night option, with only 7% of ticket buyers attending with a date, while 21% were accompanied by a spouse or partner.

Box office performance has been consistent across the United States, with notable success in the southern regions, particularly in South Central, which also performed strongly for Dominion. The top-grossing cinema nationwide is the AMC’s Disney Springs in Orlando, which has reported a remarkable $230,000 in ticket sales so far. Although the film did not show in IMAX, Premium Large Format (PLF) screenings have become a popular choice, driving 29% of ticket sales, while 3D screenings accounted for 18%. For comparison, IMAX and PLFs made up 35% of Dominion's three-day opening weekend earnings of $145 million.

One noteworthy aspect to consider is the purchasing behavior of moviegoers. Similar to Dominion, Rebirth saw 58% of its attendees purchasing their tickets on the same day. However, the reboot experienced better presales, with 30% of tickets sold in the last week, compared to 14% for Dominion.

Reasons for attending this franchise installment varied, with 51% of respondents citing their loyalty to the series as the primary motivation, a figure that exceeds 43% for the previous installment. Additionally, 22% of attendees were drawn by the new cast members, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, while 25% were there to see returning stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

In terms of marketing efficacy, 53% of respondents indicated they would be interested in seeing a sequel to Rebirth, with 33% expressing conditional interest based on how captivating the sequel proves to be.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ second Friday of F1 reported earnings of $6.9 million, projecting a 3-day total between $24 million and $25 million, translating to a running total of around $108.9 million by the end of the weekend.
