Universal Pictures' latest installment in the iconic dinosaur saga, titled Jurassic World Rebirth, has made a significant impact at the Chinese box office, debuting at number one during the weekend of July 4th to July 6th. The film raked in an impressive RMB184.8 million, equivalent to $25.7 million, as reported by Artisan Gateway. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the movie features a star-studded cast including renowned actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend. This latest entry aims to reignite interest in the beloved franchise, appealing to both longstanding fans and a new generation of moviegoers.
Despite facing competition from various well-received holdover films, Jurassic World Rebirth managed to secure its leading position at the box office. Notably, the film benefitted from the IMAX format, which contributed a substantial $5.5 million to its overall earnings in the market.
Another box office hit this weekend was TMS Entertainment's Detective Conan: The Movie – One‑Eyed Flashback, the 28th film in this enduring franchise. It continued to attract audiences, earning $8.4 million during its second weekend, which brought its cumulative earnings to an impressive $38.6 million. The Detective Conan series has a dedicated fan base in China, contributing to its strong box office performance.
In third place, the racing drama F1: The Movie, a collaboration between Warner Bros and Apple Original Films, managed to secure $7.7 million over the weekend. This brings its total revenue to $21.8 million, with $2.5 million coming from IMAX screenings. The film highlights the thrilling world of Formula One racing, captivating fans of the sport.
Making its debut in fourth place, the thriller Malice opened with $6.6 million. Directed by Lai Mukuan and Yao Wenyi, this gripping narrative follows journalist Ye Pan, portrayed by Zhang Xiaofei. She finds herself at the center of public scrutiny after alleging that nurse Li Yue and mother You Qian are involved in a mysterious double fall incident. Lastly, in fifth position was the sequel A Cool Fish 2, which opened with $2.6 million.
