In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a woman named Nikki lived through a nightmare that ended tragically when she was allegedly set ablaze by her own husband and in-laws over dowry demands in Greater Noida. This gruesome incident unfolded on a seemingly ordinary day in Sirsa village, where Nikki, who had been married since 2016, had already endured six months of torment due to relentless dowry pressure.

As chilling as it sounds, Nikki's story took a horrifying twist when a disturbing video surfaced on social media. The footage revealed the brutal assault by her husband and his family, culminating in the moment she was set on fire. What makes this story even more gut-wrenching is that her innocent minor son witnessed the whole ordeal. Reports indicate that he saw his mother being slapped and then ignited with a lighter, an image no child should ever have to bear.

The horrifying allegations detail that Nikki was targeted because her family failed to meet an outrageous dowry demand of ₹36 lakh. In fact, her elder sister, who had been married into the same family, confirmed that Nikki’s life was taken because she could not furnish the required dowry. How can a family sink to such depths of cruelty?

Initially, neighbors rushed Nikki to Fortis Hospital, but her condition was grave. She was later transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she tragically succumbed to her severe burn injuries while in transit. The Greater Noida police, upon being alerted by the Fortis Hospital, swiftly registered a case against four members of Nikki’s family: her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and brother-in-law. Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed the gravity of the situation, highlighting the urgent response initiated by the police following the memo received from the hospital.

This harrowing case has opened up a dialogue about the deadly implications of dowry practices in modern society. The police have apprehended Nikki's husband, Vipin, and are actively pursuing the other accused family members to bring justice to Nikki's memory. How many more lives will be lost before society takes a stand against such outdated and barbaric customs?
