Heartbreaking Tragedy: Mom Set Ablaze Over Dowry Demand - Justice Needed Now!

Imagine witnessing your own mother being set on fire, all because of a cruel dowry demand. This horrifying reality struck six-year-old Nikki's son in Sirsa village, where his mother was allegedly burned alive by her husband and in-laws over ₹35 lakh. The brutal nature of this crime has sent shockwaves across the community, igniting protests demanding justice.
Nikki, just 28 years old, tragically succumbed to her injuries while being transported from Noida’s Fortis Hospital to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. As the police began their investigation, they announced the arrest of her husband, Vipin Bhati. However, his father Satyaveer Bhati and brother Rohit Bhati are currently on the run, and the FIR also names Nikki’s mother-in-law, Daya, who is implicated in this disturbing case.
The heart-wrenching details surrounding Nikki’s death are even more chilling when you consider that her young son witnessed the entire incident. In his heartbreaking statement, he recounted, “Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara fir lighter se aag laga di,” translating to “They poured something on my mother, slapped her and set her ablaze with a lighter.” This innocent boy’s words amplify the horror of what occurred that fateful day.
Compounding the tragedy, two disturbing videos of the incident have surfaced online. One shows Nikki being viciously assaulted, while another captures her limping down the stairs after being set ablaze. These horrifying clips, reportedly recorded by Nikki’s elder sister Kanchan—who is married into the same family—have further fueled public outrage.
Nikki and Vipin were married in December 2016, but their life together quickly spiraled into a nightmare. Although no dowry was exchanged at the time of their marriage, pressure for ₹35 lakh began shortly afterward. Kanchan revealed that both sisters faced relentless torture for dowry, stating, “They hit her in her neck and head, threw acid, and carried out atrocities against us.”
As the police officially classified Nikki's death as murder, a deeply unsettling Instagram post from Vipin emerged, claiming Nikki had died by suicide. His post read, “Why did you leave me? The world is calling me a killer, Nikki,” accompanied by a video of him smiling with her and their son. This has been interpreted by police as an apparent attempt to mislead the public and deflect blame away from himself.
Kanchan alleges that Nikki’s in-laws were actively trying to drive her away so Vipin could remarry, stating, “They wanted my sister gone… they were planning his second marriage.” She described the physical abuse they endured together and shared that she was knocked unconscious during one of the assaults.
In response to this tragic incident, Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed that authorities have filed a case under charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, and voluntarily causing hurt under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. While Vipin remains in police custody, teams are tirelessly working to track down his absconding relatives. The residents of Sirsa village have taken to the streets, demanding swift justice, chanting “Justice for Nikki,” as anger continues to build over this heinous act of dowry violence in Uttar Pradesh.
