The vast majority of my online dating interactions have been like that, Raines confessed, opting to use a pseudonym to maintain his privacy. His experience resonated deeply with numerous Reddit users who chimed in with their own similar encounters, further illustrating a widespread issue. I see I'm not the only one getting that type of energy lol, commented one user, while another expressed a more critical viewpoint: It sucks, and if people swiped more mindfully this wouldnt happen, but a lot of guys are so beaten down by the dating app experience they feel like they dont have any other choice and want whatever validation they can get.

The sentiment that has emerged among users suggests a growing disillusionment with dating apps overall. For many, the act of chatting has devolved into a tedious task; conversations frequently lead to dead ends, and the initial excitement of swiping through potential matches has all but faded away. Over the past few years, various discussions have surfaced, focusing on the flaws inherent in these platforms and how the profit-driven nature of these apps has negatively impacted the user experience. Only 56 percent of Gen Z adults reported being in a romantic relationship during their teenage years, compared to 78 percent of Baby Boomers and 76 percent of Generation X. Additionally, a 2024 report from Hinge highlighted the struggles faced by Gen Z users, many of whom attribute their dating apprehension to the COVID-19 pandemic. The data showed that Gen Z was 47 percent more likely than Millennials to feel nervous about meeting new people as a result of the pandemic, with 25 percent claiming it diminished their confidence on first dates.

In an effort to combat these challenges, Tinder collaborated with OpenAI to introduce an innovative feature called The Game Game. This interactive experience places users in hyper-specific, flirtatious scenarios, complete with an AI-generated voice that initiates flirtation. Users are then prompted to respond using their own voice, encouraging practice in a low-stakes environment.
