What Bruno Fernandes told Ruben Amorim and Manchester United coaching staff - 'When I die' Bruno Fernandes was the Man Utd hero once again as he scored two goals in a 3-0 win against Athletic Bilbao that has moved them to the brink of the Europa League final. Bruno Fernandes felt the pressure taking United's penalty in Bilbao - but it didn't show Bruno Fernandes admitted he feels pressure every time he steps up to take a penalty for Manchester United - but said that he relishes the responsibility and will miss it when it’s gone. The United skipper was made to wait before taking the penalty that put his side 2-0 up against Athletic Club in Bilbao, with the home players furious at the decision to award a spot-kick after a VAR review and dismiss Dani Vivian. ‌ But Fernandes kept his cool to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and then added a second when he lifted a finish over Julen Agirrezabala just before half-time to all but kill off this Europa League semi-final tie before next week’s Old Trafford return. ‌ Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, pundit and former United defender Rio Ferdinand told Fernandes he had been the coolest man in the stadium, but in a revealing response, the 30-year-old explained why he did feel the pressure and gave an insight into why he rarely misses games and what he tells Ruben Amorim and the medical staff when he is instructed to rest. Speaking about taking on the responsibility of scoring and creating goals, Fernandes said: “You need to grow, you need to understand where you are, the place you play for, the club you play for and everything gets bigger,” he said. “Sporting is a massive club, but United is a global club, the attention we get, the pressure we get, but that’s football. It's what we love to do. Harry Maguire was the goalscoring hero against Lyon in the previous round and he turned creator against Athletic, twisting and turning on the right wing before sending in a cross that led to Casemiro opening the scoring. I think even the opposition was not expecting that to come. “We're very happy. Harry is a much more confident man now. You know things are coming through and when he's playing, when you get to games, when he's also getting goals, he's defending very well. His position is becoming more and more strong. “He's a very good leader so it’s a good thing and we hope it just keeps improving because at this club you need to keep improving all the time, you can't just stop.”
