It has come to our attention that many students are talking about or playing a game called Senior Assassins Day and trying to bring replica weapons, including water guns, to school In a letter from Krista M. Tucker Petrick, the Chippewa Intermediate and Secondary School principal, parents and guardians are warned about the implications of students participating in a dangerous game involving weapons, whether real or replica. "It has come to our attention that many students are talking about or playing a game called "Senior Assassins Day" and trying to bring replica weapons, including water guns, to school. This game is not sanctioned by the school and while these weapons may appear harmless as they are sold as 'toys', it's imperative that students understand that any item that looks like a weapon must be treated as such and can therefore result in a school lockdown. When police respond to an emergency call of a reported weapon, they come to eliminate the threat." Petrick cites school lockdowns that have taken place in school communities in recent years and asks parents and guardians to take this sort of activity seriously by addressing their students. "We would ask for your support in speaking with your child(ren) about the seriousness of playing this game and bringing fake or replica weapons, including water pistols or water guns, to school. Having schools placed in a lockdown unnecessarily places many people at risk, including students, staff, parents, officers, and community members. We want everyone to be safe. Please leave any items that look like weapons at home." Petrick makes it clear in her letter that there will be serious repercussions for any students who go ahead with plans to participate in Senior Assassins Day. "Given the negative repercussions that can result from the playing of Senior Assassins Day at school and bringing these types of items coming to school, the school administration will be taking a very serious approach to any cases where students are playing the game on Chippewa SS property, or where weapons (real or replica) are being brought to school. These actions may result in formal consequences, including suspension and/or recommendation for expulsion. On behalf of the admin team, we thank you for your help in making our schools as safe as possible."
