Man stopped for yelling in the street, assaults officer: Shaker Hts.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Assault on a police officer: Lee Road At 11:05 p.m. April 27, officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Lee Road to investigate a report of a man causing a disturbance by yelling in the street. Officers located the man, 24, of East Cleveland, and it was learned that he was wanted on warrants by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and the Cleveland Heights and University Heights police departments. When officers attempted to arrest him, the man assaulted an officer. The man was taken into custody and charged with assault on a police officer. OVI: Shaker Boulevard At 2:05 a.m. April 25, officers were dispatched to the area of Shaker Boulevard and Coventry Road to investigate a report of a male who appeared to be asleep behind the wheel of a Chevrolet vehicle. As officers responded, dispatch informed them that the car was being driven over a curb and into oncoming traffic. Officers located the vehicle, stopped it, smelled alcohol and observed that the driver, a Shaker Heights man, 58, showed signs of impairment. The man failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. He submitted a breath-alcohol sample of .143, above the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. He was additionally charged with having a prohibited BAC. Violation of protection order: Van Aken Boulevard At 6:50 p.m. April 25, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Van Aken Boulevard to investigate a disturbance. Officers learned that a 40-year-old Shaker Heights man was at his parents residence in violation of a protection order. The man was arrested for the offense. Violation of protection order: Winslow Road At 3:15 a.m. April 26, officers were dispatched to the 18000 block of Winslow Road where a Shaker Heights woman, 35, reported that her former live-in boyfriend, 28, of Cleveland, against whom she has a protection order, was at her home. Police arrested the man for the violation. Fleeing and eluding: Lee Road At 9:45 a.m. April 26, officers observed a Buick vehicle speeding while in the 3000 block of Lee Road. A traffic stop was conducted, but the driver, a Cleveland man, 53, fled as an officer walked toward his car. Police did not pursue. Later, officers found the Buick involved in a motor vehicle crash with a Kia at Southington and South Woodland roads. Officers summoned medical attention for the occupants of the Kia and arrested the Cleveland man for fleeing and eluding. Breaking and entering: Chagrin Boulevard At 10:45 a.m. April 26, officers were dispatched to the Faithfully Fit Fitness Center, 16706 Chagrin Blvd., where an employee reported that an unknown suspect damaged the rear door and entered the store. The damages were estimated at $500. Criminal trespassing: Chagrin Boulevard At 6:05 p.m. April 26, officers were dispatched to the Walgreens store located at 16400 Chagrin Blvd. to investigate a report of a man who had been previously trespassed from the store, returning. Officers located the man, 40, of Cleveland Heights, and arrested him for criminal trespassing. OVI: South Woodland Road At 10:45 p.m. April 26, police spotted a Nissan vehicle stopped, its engine running, at South Woodland and Warrensville Center roads. The driver, a Cleveland woman, 41, was found to be intoxicated and was charged with OVI. She declined to provide a breath sample. Domestic violence: Sutton Road At 4:10 a.m. April 27, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Sutton Road to investigate a disturbance. It was learned that a Shaker Heights woman, 48, had assaulted her ex-husband, 44. Police arrested the woman for domestic violence. The man was treated at the scene for minor lacerations to his face. Damage to auto: Pennington Road At 1:20 p.m. April 27, a woman, 40, who lives in the 3000 block of Pennington Road reported that someone damaged all four of the tires on her Ford vehicle. Damage was estimated at $1,000. Failure to comply: Van Aken Boulevard At 9:40 p.m. April 27, officers observed a Ford vehicle traveling in the area of Ashby Road and Van Aken Boulevard with a temporary license placard assigned to a Volkswagen vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and acquired the driver’s license of the operator, an East Cleveland man, 18. While obtaining information on the man, he accelerated away from officers at a high rate of speed. Police tracked the man to a relative’s home where he surrendered and was arrested and charged with failure to comply with the lawful order of a police officer. Theft: Van Aken Boulevard At 1:25 p.m. April 28, it was reported that a male suspect stole beverages and then left Walgreens, 20200 Van Aken Blvd. Police found the suspect, a Cleveland man, 37, and arrested him for theft. The stolen merchandise, totaling $25.89, was recovered. Menacing: Chagrin Boulevard At 4 p.m. April 28, a Cleveland Heights woman, 53, reported that an unknown female suspect pointed a gun at her after she honked her horn at the other driver for being cut off in traffic. The incident occurred at Chagrin Boulevard and Warrensville Center Road. Burglary: Daleford Road At 7:10 p.m. April 28, a man, 52, living in the 3000 block of Daleford Road, reported that someone had entered and damaged his residence, stealing more than $32,000 worth of personal property and jewelry. Carrying a concealed weapon: Shaker Boulevard At 11:20 p.m. April 28, officers observed a Chevrolet vehicle traveling on Shaker Boulevard with expired license plates. A traffic stop was conducted and it was learned that the operator, a Cleveland man, 30, was unlicensed and carrying a concealed weapon that he did not disclose to officers. Having a weapon while intoxicated: Chagrin Boulevard At 1:55 a.m. April 29, officers observed a Nissan vehicle traveling in the area of Chagrin Boulevard and Menlo Road without activated headlights. Officers stopped the vehicle and learned that the passenger, a Cleveland man, 38, was impaired and in possession of a 9mm firearm. Officers arrested the man for having a weapon while intoxicated, and cited the driver, a 36-year-old Cleveland woman, for the headlight violation. Read more from the Sun Press.
