Sony Shocks Gamers: PlayStation 5 Price Hike Hits Tomorrow!
Have you been saving up for a PlayStation 5? Well, brace yourself because Sony just dropped a bombshell! Starting tomorrow, August 21, the prices of all PlayStation 5 models in the U.S. are skyrocketing.
In a surprising announcement on the PlayStation Blog during Gamescom, the gaming giant revealed the new recommended retail price for its beloved consoles: the standard PlayStation 5 now costs $549.99, the Digital Edition is set at $499.99, and the much-anticipated PS5 Pro will retail for a whopping $749.99. These figures mark a significant increase from the previous prices, which were $499.99 for the base model, $449.99 for the Digital Edition, and $699.99 for the PS5 Pro.
But what's behind this shocking price increase? Sony explained that they’re grappling with a tough global economic climate, stating, “Similar to many global businesses, we continue to navigate a challenging economic environment. As a result, we’ve made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price for PlayStation 5 consoles in the U.S. starting on August 21.”
Interestingly, prices for accessories remain unchanged, and there's no word on price adjustments for other markets just yet. This price hike comes at a time when gaming is booming, with exciting new releases like Forza Horizon 5 hitting the shelves – a title that has already sold over three million copies on PS5, making it the top new game for the console in 2025 so far.
So, what does this mean for gamers? Will they still rush to buy the latest console, or will they hold off and wait for better deals?
